Let us see what Round 30 of Serie A has to offer!
Galo v Ceara
Galo are in strong need of a win. Jorge Sampaoli’s side have won only once in the last five league games, that coming against bottom of the table Sport. They did get a credible draw in the local derby with Cruzeiro but followed that up with a narrow defeat to Corinthians. By the time this weekend rolls around, Galo will already know what they need to do for the second leg of their Sudamericana semi final with Indepdiente del Valle, as this league match is sandwiched in-between the semi final. Ceara are also finding things moving slowly, now sitting in 13th position they will be looking to get back to winning ways after a loss to Botafogo last time out.
Prediction: 1-1
Vitoria v Corinthians
Vitoria are in form. After winning only one of their previous ten league matches beforehand they’ve turned it around, winning three of their last five, including a huge win over relegation rivals Santos last time out. They now sit level with the team they beat on Monday night and have put themselves well in contention for an escape from relegation as the season heads towards its final stretch. Corinthians are now only five points above their hosts on Saturday after another inconsistent term. Dorival Junior needs to reset his team as it looks like they are heading for another middle of the road finish.
Prediction: 2-1
Fluminense v Inter
Since Zubeldia has arrived in Rio his Flu side have been in mixed form and as a result sit nine points off the top four coming into this one. Inter have been in better form, only losing once in the last five games and are steadily making their way away from the relegation zone.
Prediction: 2-2
Sport Recife v Mirassol
Sport are well and truly in trouble. Although the maths are still in their favour, no wins in six says it won’t be long before they do slip through the trap door. Draws are no longer good enough with ten left and fourteen points from safety. Things really need to start looking up for them. Mirassol are a marvellous miracle this season sitting in forth and only nine points off the top. After a small blip end of September/ early October they’ve now won three on the spin and don’t look like stopping.
Prediction: 0-2
Fortaleza v Flamengo
Fortaleza will be happy to be back at home, this is where they have been better this season, in an all round horror shoe season. They sit seven points from safety and are now in real danger of dropping down to Serie B. Flamengo will be looking to keep the steam train rolling towards the title with another win here.
Prediction: 0-3
Sao Paulo v Bahia
Sao Paulo are nosediving, only one win in five games, losing four and the last three of those. They are in need of a win or for the season to finish soon, before they start looking down the table rather than up. Crespo started well but it is not currently going to plan. Bahia have maintained their healthy table position near enough throughout the whole season. They have had three impressive wins from their last five, beating both Palmeiras and Flamengo in that time as well as a big 4-0 win over Gremio. Away form is a slight concern however, having not won in any of their last five away games.
Prediction: 1-1
Botafogo v Santos
Fogo can’t get any consistency going of recent times, and have also found goals hard to come by. However they won on the last time out at Ceara, and are pushing towards the top four. Santos are looking over their shoulders after losing a huge game with Vitoria. One win in five has to improve if they are going to stay up.
Prediction: 2-0
Gremio v Juventude
A local derby of sorts and one that both sides need to be on their guard for. Although there are ten points between these two, a win for Juve and other results going against Gremio, the home side will be looking over their shoulders. Despite losing heavily in Bahia, Gremio have done enough recently to haul themselves up away from the relegation zone, but the work is far from done. Juve had a much needed win last time out against Red Bull Bragantino, having not won in any of the seven games before that. Five points from safety at this stage, with ten to play, its doable if they can find form.
Prediction: 2-1
Red Bull Bragantino v Vasco da Gama
Brag certainly don’t have much to brag about at the moment, with only one win in the last eight games, they owe much to their early season form to why they are so high up in the table. Vasco are three points and two places above their hosts on Sunday and they continued their good form from September into October, winning all three of the last three matches. A shining light in their team is no doubt teenager Rayan, who has scored four goals in the last four games.
Prediction: 0-2
Palmeiras v Cruzeiro
Table toppers, Palmeiras will be looking to get back to winning ways after losing the crunch match with Flamengo last time. The palm trees won four on the bounce before that game and will be looking to get back on with their title charge here against Cruzeiro. The away side sit in third but last weekend’s win over Fortaleza was their first win in five games. A win here would really set the cat amongst the pigeons in the title race, putting Cruzeiro two points behind their hosts.
Prediction: 2-1
